This type of seal is a variant of the single spring seal and also one of the cheaper mechanical seals that are used for applications and mediums that are not too heavy. Think of (dirty) water applications or swimming pool pumps. Often, the materials used are ceramic against Carbon and the NBR, EPDM or Viton O-Rings.
